Description

It is celebrated on the third Sunday of September in Espinho in honour of Santa Padroeira dos Pescadores, whom to ask for help.
Espinho is closely related to the cult of Nossa Senhora da Ajuda, patron saint of the city and protector of work at sea.
For historical memory, legends are linked to the appearance of this cult. Certainly, it is known that, in search of a best sea for sardine fishing, fishermen arrived in this region near the south, and their obsession remained the need to build a place for worshipping.
Nossa Senhora da Ajuda was the patron saint of the people of Ovar. At the same time, the religious and pagan festival began to take place in the municipality of Espinho.
The adoration of Nossa Senhora da Ajuda, with a solemn Mass in the chapel and a respectful procession, is followed by a profane festival, culminating in a great show of music and fireworks.
